Devbhomi Uttrakhand ( the land of gods ) is popular for its temples and mountain treks . It was seperated from Uttar Pradesh on 9th November 2000. There are two divisions of the state one Gharhwal and the other is Kumaon . There are total 13 districts and its capital is Dehradun . Its official languages are Hindi and Sanskrit but Garhwali and Kumaoni can also be heared . It is also the originating point of two mpst important rivers of India Ganga at Gangotri and Yamuna at Yamunotri . With an area of about 53,483 it stands 19th in India . At west it shares border with Nepal ,at north with China ( Tibet ) . And inside India at south with Himachal Pradesh and with Uttar Pradesh at northwest

Culture and history info

History

Acheological remains show existence of human since pre-historic times about the vedic period ( 1500 BC ) . It was settled by kols origionally . In turns it has been ruled by the Pauravas , Kushanas , Kunindas , Guptas , Gurjara-Pratihara , Katyris , Raikas , Palas , Chands , Parmars or Parwars and by the British . The holy book of Hindus the Mahabharta was scripted by Kalidasa in this region only.

Culture

The culture of Uttrakhand is a mixture of two cultures the Garhwali and the Kumaoni . Some customs and traidations here are Basant Panchmi , Bitauli , Harela , Phooldei , Batsavitri and Dikar Puja etc . Music is important source of worship here . And some types of folk dance are Langvir Nritya , Hurka Baul , Jhora Chanchi and Jhmaila etc . Usually , wood crafts are used as decotratives here . Other types of crafts are Handcrafted gold jwellery , Garhwal baskets , Wollen Shawls and scarfs or rugs . They for food use vegetable and wheat being a staple , and non vegetarian food is also used .
